Application requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor degree or an equivalent international degree in filmmaking, and also one to two years’ practical experience within their profession. In exceptional cases an applicant may qualify based on professional experience only (* see footnote at the bottom of the page). Applicants can only apply for a discipline in which they have education and experience.

Directing Fiction

S-6: Original screenplay, typed, 25 pages and a 2-page synopsis (A4, 12 pt and 1.5-spaced). The screenplay may a complete work or be part of a full length feature film or television drama. The script must be original and not adapted or co-authored. Please state completion year.

S-7: Treatment for an original feature film project (not an adaptation) of no more than 10 pages (A4, 12 pt and 1.5-spaced.

P-6: Feature film or television drama proposal written by you – original or adapted from another source (give details of origin) max. 5 pages (A4, 12 pt and 1.5-spaced). Explain your reasons for choosing it and your supposition of its audience appeal. Please state completion year.

P-7 and P-8: 2 examples of accessible films or television drama – please indicate which 10 minutes you want us to see. Write your analysis of directorial style, production value, audience appeal and your reasons for choosing these examples. Max 2 A4 pages each.

 

Cinematography

Sound Design/Production Sound

SD-6 and SD-7: 2 examples of completed films or television drama where your responsibility has comprised recording, track laying and/or mixing. Upload only 10 minutes of each piece that may be part of a longer work.

If your role was limited to sections of the sound work, this must be clearly indicated by the film credits.

You may add a 1-page note to each example, but this is not compulsory.

 

SD-8: A sound montage of approximately 3 to 5 minutes running time made by the applicant. Add a 1-page note on your idea for the montage, how it was developed, the resources you were using, and how the re-recording was done.

 

Editing

* Experience based applications

Applicants who do not have a bachelor degree or an equivalent education in filmmaking may exceptionally be considered for admission to the Master programme based on their practical experience and educational accomplishments other than film.

 

In addition to the application requirements described above, they are requested to describe how, in their view, their practical experience and previous education make them qualified as master candidates.

 

This additional information and any supplementary documentation must be supplied in attachments 1, 3 and 4 – as it fits, and may exceed the prescribed document size.

All other application requirements are identical for this category of applicants.
